The Worst is Over

Well,  it warmed up into the 50s today and all the ice came down.  The ground is still covered though.  So the aftermath of the Great 2009 Ice Storm:

  • Mirror on Blazer
  • Amateur Radio Antenna on Blazer
  • Bamboo
  • Keyboard
  • Roof Leak and associated drywall damage
  • Dwarf Southern Magnolia
  • Honeysuckle (was in the process of cutting it down)

Never lost power.  Not too bad really.

Compare to the Great 2003 Ice Storm:

  • Electric Service Entrance including drop, riser, meter box and main disconnect (total loss)
  • Storage Shed (total loss)
  • Sump Pump
  • Elm tree damage
  • All contents of refrigerator
  • Cable TV
  • Telephone
  • 2 Rhododendrons (somewhat came back)
  • Siding damage
  • 8 days without electricity

In both cases we fared better than many others.

Many others had much more losses and ours was way less than 2003. Not even going to mess with insurance. Besides the magnolia would not be covered. And that's what bother me the most. Anyway I think with some careful pruning it will be OK. The roof on the addition will have be be totally replaced. I spent about $100 on patching Saturday, but it all needs stripped off and replaced. About $300 to 400 in materials.

I hope the magnolia will come back! And I also hope that you are done with icestorms for the season!
