Short commentary on Christmas presents and kids

Just a simple Craigslist ad I ran across. Says alot about our society

“We have a Meade LightBridge 12inch telescope for sale with 2 extra eye pieces and a shroud to keep dust and debris off during storage. Bought for kids and they have no interest in seeing anything other than what’s on the tv or computer. Would like to sell before Christmas to buy them something them something else they won’t use. “

    sad.
however, if the parent(s) use it, the kids may become interested.

btw, lunar eclipse tonight – best from the left coast, though.

It’s total an hour before dawn here, so between sleeping and brr, it’s just going to have to do without me.

the best is in Mountain Time: some places will get to see the eclipsed full moon setting right at sunrise! I’d get up for that.

Indeed, the kids learn by example. Also, I really think a $899 12″ scope is a bit much for a starter scope.

“something else they won’t use” — these are realistic parents.

It is actually a good price. Usually the stuff on Craigslist is overpriced. They are asking about 1/2 of retail. Meade makes nice optics. So if anyone is interested, I can post the link. I would consider it but I already have a nice 4″ refractor which suits me fine in the city.

  4. Sadly, ’bout sums it up.
